You know, I never realized squirrels eat pizza! I think it is so darling to see them with it. And, I find it even more interesting they will fight for it!
I remember the first time I saw Herbie eating pizza! It was summertime and he was sitting on my retaining wall. I was shocked and amazed! I laughed so loud at his cuteness the boy across the street heard me. It was great!
I’d like to refer you back to my first book, Joy Stories, Volume One, which contains a delightful and true (whether you believe it or not) story of just one of my delights with squirrels. This short story is entitled: Herbie In The Garage: A Squirrel Tale. If you haven’t read it, take a peek.
Now let’s move on. Many times my squirrel babies have chased crows away; and every time I’ve seen this, the crows comply and go… I’ve always felt bad for the crows because of course I love them too and they have just as much right to eat the bread, corn, feed, pancakes and pizza that we give them. (Leftovers, of course.)
This particular day, which was only two days ago, Herbie had pizza again. And Herbie had pizza at the boulevard of our front yard. I could see the piece he had; it was big and looked good enough for me to eat! (I can only eat leftover pizza the next day. After that it’s not fresh enough for me.)
Now my crow baby, Larry, decided Duane threw that pizza out for him. He did a short dash at Herbie and tried to snatch the pizza that was ‘rightfully’ his.
Selah.
I was truly shocked that Larry was aggressive to a squirrel! I’ve seen many times when my very beloved squirrels will chase crows away from ‘their’ stash of food. The crows have always complied and hopped away and sometimes even leave.
But this was new: a crow going after food Herbie was eating… Of course, Herbie said, “No! Go away! This is mine!” But you know what? Herbie lost! After only two attempts to grab that pizza and run, I mean fly, Larry swooped at Herbie again, snatched it, and flew across the street!
Poor Herbie!
Poor, poor Herbie! I could feel his pain! Pizza is my very favorite food! (Remember: I have told my children for years when I die: “Don’t cry. Have a pizza party and play some Mahalia Jackson.) I then watched my little, sorrowful squirrel baby look and look for crumbs in the street!!
Thankfully, his joy was somewhat restored to him when he came back into Mamma Ann’s yard and found yet another piece of pizza!
Joy unspeakable!
Growing up in a home without the love for God, an invalid father, heavy financial hardships, and tremendous (sometimes dangerous) discord is always difficult. Add on to that extreme shyness, a feeling of inferiority, and some may think this girl was rejected. But God’s hand was on her and His heart was for her. Today, Ann Marie Turner has performed many great services in Jesus’ name for the love of God and man; and for herself! She has ministered in the male correctional for over ten years. Along with this website, Ann is the author of Joy Stories, Volume One and The Free Incarcerated Man. Writing about the joy of the Lord and the victory that is available for a willing soul is one of Ann’s now greatest joys! Ann’s prayer for you is to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony. Celebrate the God of the Bible and your personal victories in Christ unceasingly! Revelation 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
