PEWTER’S PAUSE is a reflective moment on the beauty of just one of God’s wonderous creations: cats! The title is in honor of my own Russian Blue who has been rescued, revived, and cherished as God wants all cats to be!

THIS KITTY STORY IS ABOUT BAILEY…
Bailey was a male Lilac Himalayan, completely gorgeous: and I didn’t want him. It’s understandable.
At that time in my life my three children were small; we had other cats and a dog. I believe we had two other cats, I really can’t remember. All of my life (for the very most part) I’ve always had cats and a dog or two. Our house was full.
But, a friend back then was allergic to this very beautiful boy. She knew her husband should have never bought him. Neither one of them knew the Scriptures apparently how we are given dominion from God and no little kitty cat should make us sick. We are to rule. But Bailey needed a new home and this lady knew how much I love animals; she was well aware of how I spoke of Bailey! He was extremely handsome! I always wanted to hold him and I never could at their home, he’d always hide on us. And: I had never yet had a Himalayan…
Selah.
It was a good fit! Plus, this way her two daughters would be able to see Bailey regularly. Only her husband would be the biggest victim because he was smart enough to love a gorgeous (and expensive) cat he could no longer have!
So, into our home came a male Lila Himalayan! He came with full acceptance and the plan that Bailey was now my cat. I was the one who took charge of all his needs; feeding, loving, and grooming – especially the grooming part. I’ll have to tell you more about that!
Of course my little children were thrilled to have him and my husband was willing and ready to keep Bailey and give him love too! That’s my guy!
NOTE: I would never have married a man who didn’t love and cherish animals! Those kind of guys have a screw loose!!
Of course, Bailey was terrified of his new surroundings because he was surrounded! More kids, (one more than his first home) an indoor dog rather than a basically an outside one (although our dog was much, smaller) and in addition, Bailey now also had competition, no longer being the only cat! Poor baby!
Selah.
And yet, not! No poor baby at all because this boy had entered a home with people who knew he wouldn’t be given away, who knew his fears, and who knew that with the help of God, Bailey would (sooner or later) become a family member who realized he was safe, very well cared for, receiving love each and every day! And this cat ended up stealing my Christmas tree skirt! (More about that later.)
My friend and her daughters brought Bailey over with his very beloved child carrier. It was a real one! He loved to lay in it, curled up and comfy! A very unusual sight and a darling one! I kept the carrier for him as long as I could, but then it had to go… It became of very ghetto-looking! Bailey deserved to have quality toys and comfy spots to lay…
At this time in my life (2023) I can’t remember how long we had Bailey or how long it took him to adjust to us… I do remember one of the cutest things: the first time I heard him talk. I am telling you, I was absolutely shocked! Bailey’s voice instantly sounded to me like a little old man’s (human)! I mean old! His voice was very distinct and I grew to love it! (Probably did that first day he was with us!)
I’ll never forget the time I walked past the bathroom and Bailey scared me!! He loved to have water dripping from the upstairs bathroom sink and he’d frequently ask me to turn it on… On that particular day that’s what he wanted and I just walking by! He talked to me in his ‘old man’s voice’ very loudly so he’d get my attention! It was truly hilarious! I screamed!! Without hesitation, and after recovering from my ‘fear,’ I obliged and turned on the water. Bailey and I were both satisfied.. I laughed at the determination of my precious baby!
Now, let me tell you about Bailey’s grooming. I don’t know (probably are) if all Himalayans have fur like cotton candy, but Bailey did. He needed to be combed basically daily; and I did. If his fur wasn’t well maintained he’d get balls of fur that would end up hurting him. I wasn’t about to let that happen…
Bailey came to know that he was cherished, respected. But, he’d hide in all kinds of places so I couldn’t find him to groom him! Cute! Smart! One time I found him on top of the microwave in the rec room. You could always tell he wasn’t happy when I found him! (You could actually see his displeasure.) But I was! I remember telling him that time, “Now I know where another one of your hiding places is!” He especially didn’t like hearing that!
Bailey died in peace, surrounding by love, old and full of years! The girls he used to live with were very thankful how long he lived and how much he was loved! It’s never easy to give a pet away…
and it shouldn’t be.
Selah.
He started to decline and I could see it. He got weaker and weaker and started just sleeping all the time. As I said, he died on my Christmas tree skirt. He had taken it over as his and we allowed him to. We always left a big and open spot where he could lay amongst the presents.
Bailey knew he would always be one of our special gifts…
DO YOU HAVE a cat, dog, or other fur or feather baby who communicates very well with you? Are you listening? Do you have the peace and assurance I do that these little fellows join their Creator eternally?
Be certain: God never annihilates His creation.
SCRIPTURES REGARDING THIS JOY STORY:

the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Genesis 6:19-20
You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.
Genesis 7:2-3
Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.
Psalm 36:6
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
Isaiah 11:6-9
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Romans 8:18-23
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
Growing up in a home without the love for God, an invalid father, heavy financial hardships, and tremendous (sometimes dangerous) discord is always difficult. Add on to that extreme shyness, a feeling of inferiority, and some may think this girl was rejected. But God’s hand was on her and His heart was for her. Today, Ann Marie Turner has performed many great services in Jesus’ name for the love of God and man; and for herself! She has ministered in the male correctional for over ten years. Along with this website, Ann is the author of Joy Stories, Volume One and The Free Incarcerated Man. Writing about the joy of the Lord and the victory that is available for a willing soul is one of Ann’s now greatest joys! Ann’s prayer for you is to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony. Celebrate the God of the Bible and your personal victories in Christ unceasingly!
