Duane asked me for a foot rub. That’s what he usually gives me.
For the most part I give him a back scratch because that is what he prefers.
For whatever reason (and it could be his socks – I had peeling toes years ago due to cotton socks) his feet were peeling. So, to my lack of enthusiasm, Duane asked for a foot rub.
Selah.
Here, beloved, is my point:
I didn’t want to give him one. Foot rubs are hard to give and I hate feeling that icky feeling of dry skin.
But here is what I did:
I gave Duane one! And not only did I give him one – I rubbed both feet (Ha!) – and did a most excellent job! I gave him a foot rub because first of all, he asked. Secondly, he really needed to have lotion deeply rubbed into his peeling feet.
It is an honor to serve! Now we’ve bought O’Keeffe’s Healthy Feet. It hasn’t come to our door yet but it will be best for my hands. Besides the peeling toes from cotton socks I used to get, my hands have taken a physical beating over the years from baby care, housework care, and plain living.
NOTE: I highly, highly recommend O’Keeffe’s Working Hands Cream. For me, it works better than any other great product I’ve used. Funny thing that different formulas work better for some people than others. So if you haven’t found the best hand and foot lotions – please check these out. I’ve even give a lot of hand cream to people when I see the condition of their hands and tell them to spread the good news of O’Keeffe’s! (And: no, I don’t get any endorsement money from them. I just love to share good news – that is why I freely write stories glorifying the One True God!)
Selah.
Now a regular part of my time with my Sweetie of forty-two-plus years of marriage may very well be – foot rubs!
This is just another part of being a good wife!
P.S. Also, I love being honest (I’d better!) and telling Duane why I don’t like doing giving him one! But remember the joy of serving conquers distastes: and God revealed to me more than one reason I now don’t hate giving Duane’s feet a healthy anointing!
Growing up in a home without the love for God, an invalid father, heavy financial hardships, and tremendous (sometimes dangerous) discord is always difficult. Add on to that extreme shyness, a feeling of inferiority, and some may think this girl was rejected. But God’s hand was on her and His heart was for her. Writing about the joy of the Lord and the victory that is available for a willing soul is one of Ann’s now greatest joys!
