I AM VERY BIG ON EQUALITY. Why? God is:
Romans 2:5-11
But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.
And this article may be one of the most interesting and enlightening sources you’ve ever examined. You see, I grew up with sickness and disease. My father had Multiple Sclerosis which began on him and affected the entire family when I, the youngest, was six years old… Truly the horrors of it were not only on my father, rather the entire family suffered as well: of course in different ways than he did.
I’m not being selfish, self-centered, I am simply so much more aware of the hardships the invalid and their families experience than so many people. None of it good. After all, sickness is a curse (obviously) which Christ redeemed us from. Study the stripes He bore for you. Therefore, as you read this, please keep in mind I care. I thank God I care; and I equally thank God that I hate vehemently all sicknesses and diseases. This hatred is God-given, God approved, and God necessary!
Selah.
When my father was struck with this disease one year later he could not work. Several years later I felt I had no father, but I thought of him (remember, I was a child, raised without God’s Bible teaching in my home) more as a mentally handicapped older brother. Sad.
So I do know a lot about sicknesses affecting those living with the invalid. I suffered hunger and lack of many things the average middle-class person in America enjoys. As a non-Christian, throughout my youth and young adult years, an overwhelming fear of choking plagued me. Every time I would hear anything relating to it, I would panic. My father also would suffer projectile vomiting. As a little girl it seemed to me he was vomiting up his urine! Literally, I would run off to another room so as not to see or hear this horrific attack on my dad. It was heartbreaking and gut-wrenching.
Because he no longer worked and was too young for retirement, with four children, the money was extremely tight. I used to have a friend who told me I lived a sheltered life. What bunk! There were times we had no food (or enough food.) A minimal wardrobe was provided by my mother who worked at a low paying job. Welfare kicked in for us, but still…
My father and mother never went to church that I know of. I was sent when I was tiny: and I loved it! But at an extremely young age (three probably) I remember only going twice. And the church was right across the street!
So growing up with an invalid father and very much discord in the home, Sundays were always the worst days. I’ve always found that interesting…
GOD IS THE ANSWER:
Over the years I finally started wanting to serve God. Finally! Through my first-born child God brought me to the realization that there was no way my husband and I created this precious and beautiful baby! Don’t get me wrong. The many times I thought of God being real during my youth and young adult years I did what many others do. I pushed Him back. Maybe later. Stupid and evil of me!
NOTE: please also read SOB! and HAVE YOU HAD AN ABORTION? Unborn people are people!
Selah.
Because I am painfully aware of disease and its effects, I am extremely competent to counsel you regarding how to deal with an invalid. After all from the age of six or seven until my twenties, I saw my dad decline. He was unable to know who some of his own family members were.
Now, as a Christian, I am wiser than any doctor, medical personnel, or therapist who hates God in knowing the truth and victory over Multiple Sclerosis.
The first thing to know about how to deal with an invalid is this: God is more than able to restore that person to what he should be. For those living on Earth prayer has no time limits. Jesus shed His untainted blood over two thousand years ago, making divine health available for all who believe. Please be certain to read the Scriptures applying to health at the end of this writing.
There are no errors in the Bible. God is the Author. If you ever disagree with Him – you are wrong.
2 Peter 1:20-21
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:12-13
What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Hebrews 4:12-13
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
When I deal with someone in a wheelchair, or perhaps using a cane, I don’t treat them any differently than others… except when they need special help. I don’t look down at them as if I am superior. And they are not to be favored. God is no respecter of persons. Being an invalid is not a badge or honor, nor is it a curse that cannot be broken.
Selah.
My faith regarding health is superb. I believe that has much to do with what I’ve gone through in my childhood. Please don’t think I feel I’m the only one who suffered in my childhood family. My dad did, without a doubt. As I said, however, it deeply affected my mother and my three brothers. Probably somewhat in different ways. Our reactions of life’s opportunities or disadvantages had to be dealt with individually.
We are not a product of our environment. We choose. We choose God or not and we move on from there. We either grow in wisdom and revelation of God and His truths by choice; we remain fixed where we are; or we decline because we don’t apply the victorious truths of salvation Christ has bestowed.
Selah.
If I see a person struggling to open a door (perhaps she’s in a wheelchair) I will rush to open it for her. But I will not wheel her around. If she asked and needed me to, I would of course.
If I see a cane drop on the floor, again, I will rush to pick it up and return it to the owner.
Never forget, regardless of the person’s motives, it is an honor to serve when you are doing so with the love of God. That’s exactly what I do! On the other hand, I never do anything for an invalid he can do for himself. Not just because they have dignity, but because they need to be treated with respect, and respect is a type of love. Beloved, when any person can do something for themselves and you treat them as ‘helpless’ you are doing them no favors…
Because of my experiences with my father’s appalling disease I hate all diseases as God does. Again, diseases are a curse.
Remember here please: my father and mother never taught me one word about God. They didn’t know what they should have known: and I, myself, put off knowledge of God too long.
I willingly tell people I’m able to about the stripes of Jesus… How He took all – all – sicknesses upon Himself, shed His blood, and offers all – all – salvation. Salvation includes: forgiveness of your sin, provision for everything you need, and healing! Glory and alleluia to the King of kings and Lord of lords!
Please remember the best help you can give an invalid is the gift of God’s Word: and not just if they are physically suffering, but in every arena of their lives. God truly has provided a healing and wholeness for all. The problem? Many simply don’t believe the God who cannot lie!
SCRIPTURAL TRUTHS FOR THIS JOY STORY:
Psalm 103:1-5
Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Isaiah 53:4-5
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Matthew 8:16
When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
Hebrews 3:14
We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
1 Peter 2:24
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Growing up in a home without the love for God, an invalid father, heavy financial hardships, and tremendous (sometimes dangerous) discord is always difficult. Revelation 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
